Kinesthetic Learning Center

Body-Mind Centering® (BMCSM) Courses may be taken individually or in combination with no prior experience needed.

BMCSM Certification programs offered by Kinesthetic Learning Center:

Somatic Movement Educator (SME): 500 classroom hours
Infant Developmental Movement Educator (IDME): 250 classroom hours
Certified Practitioner: 500 classroom hours

The Kinesthetic Learning Center (KLC), founded in 2007, was the first training center licensed by the School for Body-Mind Centering® (SBMC) to offer Body-Mind Centering® (BMCSM) Somatic Movement Educator, Infant Developmental Movement Educator, and BMCSM Practitioner certification programs in the U.S.A.

KLC maintains the integrity of the BMCSM approach by offering the curriculum that has been developed by Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen and subsequent generations of BMCSM professionals and teachers. Our program attracts students from across the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe, South America, Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.

KLC was co-founded by Maryska Bigos, Program Director, and Bob Lehnberg, Educational Director. Wendy Masterson joined KLC as Director of Program Development in 2012.

Program Coordinators for the 2016/17 SME program are Walburga Glatz (Developmental courses) and Roxlyn Moret (Body Systems courses). Bob Lehnberg coordinates the Practitioner program. Candace Crosby, BMCSM Practitioner/LCPC, is joining the KLC staff as Student Coordinator.

KLC courses are held at Pomona College in Claremont, CA (south of LA), Rudramandir in Berkeley, CA, and Duke University, Durham, NC.

Courses are taught in English by highly experienced BMCSM faculty who create a nurturing environment for embodied studies. 2016/17 faculty include: Ellen Barlow, Erik Bendix, Maryska Bigos, Lisa, Clark, Wendy Hambidge, Rebecca Haseltine, Walburga Glatz, Thomas Greil, Bob Lehnberg, Margaret Guay, Diane Elliot, Amy Matthews and Mariko Tanabe.

KLC Directors

MARYSKA Bigos began studying BMCSM in 1979 and has been a Teacher in certification programs at the School for Body-Mind Centering® since 1983. In addition to thirty+ years teaching BMCSM, she has maintained a private practice at Health Associates in Durham, NC, and served many years on the faculty at the American Dance Festival, Governor Morehead School for the Blind, Carolina School of Massage Therapy, and Duke University Medical Center. Maryska, a member of the AMTA since 1984, holds certifications in Dr Vodder MLD and the Feldenkrais® Method. She founded the Kinesthetic Learning Center and FUNdamentals to share her lifetime dedication and experience in body, mind and movement with infants’, their caregivers, and adults’ with hope of making life easier for the next generation...“we learn by doing”.

WENDY Masterson, a registered Somatic Movement Educator, an Infant Developmental Movement Educator, and Practitioner candidate, offers KLC her extensive background in dance education, choreography and administration that spans twenty years at Interlochen Arts Academy. Wendy, a member of the Board of Directors of Body-Mind Centering® Association, has served as faculty/administrator at Vail International Dance Festival, Ballet Iowa, and American Ballet Competition. She has published several BMCSM-related articles and presented at the International Association for Dance Medicine & Science. In her private practice at Kinecetas Institute she offers educational programs in somatics, breast cancer recovery, Gyrotonic® and Reiki.

Program Coordinators

BOB Lehnberg, a BMCSM Teacher and Practitioner since 1990, is the former EAY and EDMY Student Coordinator in NYC and co-founded the Kinesthetic Learning Center. His gifts as a teacher are animated by his degree in Biology and a deep personal practice as well as certifications in QiGong, Yoga, and Health Coaching.

WALBURGA Glatz, the director of the BMCSM Training programs in Bratislava, Slovakia, lives in Berlin. She has been teaching BMCSM and dance improvisation for several years and also works with infants and children in a variety of settings. Her work with children, as well as adults, fosters freedom for non-judgmental exploration – by focusing on the philosophy and poetry of the body. Walburga is trained in Cranio-Sacral Therapy, Lymphatic Drainage, and various techniques of New Dance, Action Theatre, Butho, T’ai Chi, and Tango Argentino. Before becoming fully dedicated to BMCSM, she was a judge.

ROXLYN Moret has been exploring and teaching dance, movement, BMCSM, and yoga for 40 years. She teaches educators at a New York City school, groups at corporations, open classes, conducts workshops for professionals and has an active private practice. Roxlyn co-teaches BMCSM & Yoga programs in New York City with Amy Matthews.
